PHASE 1 – Fat Loading (Days 1 & 2)
PHASE 2 – Fat Burning (Days 3-43) depending on desired weight loss
PHASE 3 — Maintenance (Stabilization of new weight, 21 days)
TAKING THE DROPS
Beginning with phase 1, take 20 sub-lingual drops (under the tongue) 3 times per day. Do this throughout phases 1 and 2.
Drops must be taken a minimum of 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything, even water.
Leave under your tongue for 30 seconds before swallowing. Do not eat or drink anything for a minimum of 30 minutes before or after taking the drops.
Drops do not need to be refrigerated after opening.
MEAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR PHASE 2 – THE VLCD DIET (very low calorie diet)
MUST DRINK MINIMUM OF 2 LITRES OF WATER DAILY! VERY IMPORTANT!!!!
Breakfast
Any non calorie fluids in any amount (see below. i.e. tea or coffee in any quantity without sugar).
Only one tablespoonful of milk allowed in 24 hours.
Stevia may be used, but no sugar or artificial sweeteners.
Lunch
- 100 grams (3.5 oz) of veal, beef, chicken breast, fresh white fish, lobster, crab, or shrimp. All visible fat must be carefully removed before cooking,and the meat must be weighed raw.It must be boiled or grilled without additional fat. Salmon, eel, tuna, herring, dried or pickled fish are not allowed. The chicken breast must be removed from the bird before cooking.
- 100 grams (3.5 oz) of one type of vegetable only to be chosen from the following: spinach, chard, chicory, beet-greens, green salad, tomatoes,celery, fennel, onions, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus, cabbage.
- One breadstick (grissino) or one Melba toast
- An apple, orange, or 6 large strawberries or one-half grapefruit
NOTE: items #3 and 4 above can be spaced throughout your day as mini meal/snacks or used at breakfast
Dinner
The same four choices as lunch (above)
Drinks and Seasonings
- Non Calorie Fluids – Tea, coffee, plain water, or mineral water are the only drinks allowed, but they may be taken in any quantity and at all times.
- Each day a minimum of two (2) liters of water should be consumed.
- The juice of one lemon daily is allowed for all purposes.
- Apple cider vinegar is allowed. Also is French’s Mustard, Bragg’s Amino Acids and Frank’s red Hot Sauce
- Salt, pepper, vinegar, mustard powder, garlic, sweet basil, parsley, thyme, marjoram, etc., may be used for seasoning, but no oil, butter or dressing. All fresh herbs are allowed.
- A fruit or breadstick may be eaten between meals or for breakfast instead of with lunch or dinner, but no more than four items listed for lunch and dinner may be eaten at one meal.
Important Highlights
- All meat/vegetables must be weighed raw & never exceed 100 grams
- The 500 calorie limit must ALWAYS be maintained
- 2 small apples are not an acceptable exchange for “1 apple.”
- Natural sweeteners like Stevia & Xylitol are allowed…NO SUGAR!!!
- NO margarine, butter, oil, dressing
- DO NOT mix vegetables… only one type per meal. (unless you try & are able)
- White vinegar only allowed. No balsamic vinegar.
- Do not take fat soluble vitamins while on the program (ie: omegas or vitamin e)
- Consume any menthol or camphor products (this includes candy mints, mint toothpaste, and mint mouthwash) as little as possible. These products antidote the HCG and will reduce it’s effectiveness.
Vegetarians
For vegetarians, there are alternatives for the daily ration of meat. HCG Diet originator Dr. Simeons substitutes 500cc or ½ liter of skim milk; which may be split into 250ml per meal. Other alternatives for the daily meat ration include 100 grams of non-fat cottage cheese or one protein portion from eggs. This would be one whole egg, boiled or poached, with the whites of 3 more eggs. These substitutes work inside the diet, yet Dr. Simeons found that you will lose weight half as fast as non-vegetarians. However, you need to be comfortable with this program and you need the protein or else you will lose muscle instead of fat and we do not want that!
PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS
Dr Simeons suggests that mineral oil is acceptable to use during VLCD but, we MUST avoid products that contain food oils, fats, butters, steroids and/or hormones. It’s very important that no oil be used INSIDE OR OUT. For the diet to be fully effective you must eliminate be entirely free of ingesting fat and oil, even through your skin!
Read ingredients of personal care products such as makeup, moisturizer, shampoo, toothpaste, massage oil, etc. to ensure your products do not contain fat or oil other than mineral oil. You may find that many of the products you currently use do not contain any fat or oil at all.
Stay on the VLCD for a MINIMUM of 19 days (21 days of drops) and a MAXIMUM of 43 days for each round of hCG. Staying on the treatment for a minimum of 21 days is important for permanent weight loss and necessary to reset your hypothalamus.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A DAY OF NO WEIGHT LOSS – THE “APPLE DAY” PHASE 2 STALL-BREAKER!
Occasionally while on phase 2 of the HCG diet, some dieters may reach a plateau for a few days. A plateau is 4 consecutive days without inch or weight loss. While the body will normally work itself through this stage, it can cause unnecessary worry and stress during an HCG diet stall. In those cases there is an alternative that you can use for one day called the “Apple Day”.
An apple-day begins at lunch and continues until just before lunch of the following day. You may have six large apples and may eat one whenever they feel the desire though six apples is the maximum allowed. During an apple day no other food or liquids except plain water are allowed and of water they may only drink just enough to quench an uncomfortable thirst if eating an apple still leaves them thirsty. Most feel no need for water and are quite happy with their six apples. Needless to say, on apple day you will still continue with your HCG drops. The apple day produces a loss of weight on the following day, mainly due to the elimination of water. This water is not regained when you resume your normal 500 calorie diet at lunch, and on the following days you should continue to lose weight.
Final step in Phase 2 – Elimination (the 3 days immediately following your last drops)
After completing Phase 2, stop taking the drops but continue the VLCD for 3 full days after last drops to eliminate the remainder of HCG from your body. You will likely continue to lose weight during these 3 days.
